About Us

Our Mission

PURR is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to helping the homeless, neglected and abused animals in the Philadelphia area. We are entirely operated and funded by volunteers.

We focus on funding life-saving surgeries, TNR (Trap Neuter Return) and providing a home for the cats that nobody else wants.

Spice Boy, the ambassador of our sanctuary.

Shauna Frye

For as long as she can remember, Shauna has been an avid animal lover and as she has gotten older she has become more and more involved in animal rescue. Although she loves every animal, she is particularly passionate about homeless cats and dedicating her efforts to reduce the suffering they endure. The feral/stray cat problem is a direct result of the irresponsibility of people and she is committed to helping with the plight of homeless cats through education and TNR efforts.

Shauna is excited to be a part of PURR - Philadelphia Urgent Rescue and Relief, an organization where she can use her passion and efforts to bring about change. She believes from the bottom of her heart that teaching compassion toward all animals is a great foundation in making a better world and eliminating the hate that is all too pervasive in our society.

Outside of her animal rescue efforts, Shauna practices yoga regularly, which provides amazing physical and mental benefits. She also works full-time and has an amazing husband, a 12 year old son, a dog and a few cats who bring her incredible joy!

Kyle Damken

A long time animal lover, Kyle always dreamed of owning cats but grew up only being allowed to have hermit crabs. In 2014, he was finally able to adopt two cute kittens and has been a crazy cat person ever since.

Early in 2019, Kyle discovered PURR - Philadelphia Urgent Rescue and Relief via a Facebook fundraiser. He noticed they didn't have much of a web presence, and reached out to see if he could help.

As a web developer, he was able to build them a website and help spruce up their social media accounts. Shortly after completing the site he joined the team as the first member of their board of directors.

Outside of his involvement with PURR, Kyle enjoys hiking, making music and playing board games. He lives in Philadelphia with his wife and two cats.
