At PURR – Philadelphia Urgent Rescue & Relief, we are committed to improving the lives of Philadelphia’s most vulnerable cats by providing compassionate care, urgent medical support, and a safe place to land when they have nowhere else to turn.

Our mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome homeless, neglected, abandoned, and abused cats, with a special focus on those who have been overlooked, forgotten, or are facing urgent circumstances. From life-saving surgeries and extensive medical care to Trap-Neuter-Respond (TNR) initiatives and safe sanctuary for cats who cannot be adopted, our goal is simple: to give every cat we can a second chance at life, love, and a place to call home.

The opening of the PURR Cat Café in Philadelphia’s Bridesburg neighborhood has taken our mission to an entirely new level. More than just a place to spend time with amazing cats, the café has become the heart of our adoption program and an important bridge between rescue and our community. It gives our adoptable cats the opportunity to live in a comfortable, cage-free environment where their personalities can shine while they wait for their forever families. At the same time, it allows visitors to truly get to know them, creating connections that simply aren't possible through a photo or online adoption profile.

The café has also given PURR a home base—a place to welcome volunteers, educate the community, host events, raise critical funds, and introduce more people to the realities of animal rescue and the difference each of us can make.

PURR is an all-volunteer, donor-funded nonprofit organization, and everything we accomplish is made possible by people who believe, as we do, that every cat matters. Whether we are saving a critically injured cat from the streets, helping control the outdoor cat population through sterilization, caring for a cat who has nowhere else to go, or watching one of our café residents finally leave with the family they've been waiting for, every life saved reminds us why we do this work.

Together, we are creating a community where the most vulnerable cats are no longer forgotten—and where every cat has the chance to be safe, loved, and valued.
